Donations needed for the Free Kids Derby and other Youth Programs Every year we have between 450 and 600 kids for our O.P. Ball Memorial Free kids fishing derby at Lake Cuyamaca. Needless to say it is a giant undertaking, as food, great goody bags, and prizes are provided completely free to all the kids. The parents also eat a great lunch that includes BBQ Tuna from Sportsmens Seafood and hot dogs from Oscar Meyer. The Califoria State legislature created the Lake Cuyamaca Recreation and Park District in 1962 as a special use district. The lake is totally supported by fee's charged for its use. Capitol improvements are paid for in part from grants given to the district. The Lake is not attached to any tax base or supported by any city.
The Free "Fishin'in the Pines" kids derby was started in 1988 by former lake manager Hugh Marx as a way to promote the outdoors to kids. In 2007 the derby was renamed to honor Orville P. Ball former City Lakes manager and known as the "Father of Largemouth Bass fishing" in San Diego County. The IRS Allows donations to this type of event to be tax deductable. GOVERNMENTAL UNITS Governmental units, such as States and their political subdivisions, are not generally subject to federal income tax. Political subdivisions of a State are entities with one or more of the sovereign powers of the State such as the power to tax. Typically they include counties or municipalities and their agencies or departments. Charitable contributions to governmental units are tax-deductible under section 170(c)(l) of the Internal Revenue Code if made for a public purpose.IRS Documentation Letter Click Here
All funds collected are used exclusively for youth activities at the lake |
