We now have a 501(3)(C) lake Cuyamaca Foundation to make it easier to write off your donations to help the Kids Derby.

Every year we have between 450 and 600 kids for our O.P. Ball Memorial Free kids fishing derby at Lake Cuyamaca. Needless to say it is a giant undertaking, as food, great goody bags, and prizes are provided completely free to all the kids. The parents also eat a great lunch that includes BBQ Tuna from Sportsmens Seafood and hot dogs from Oscar Meyer.

The Califoria State legislature created the Lake Cuyamaca Recreation and Park District in 1962 as a special use district. The lake is totally supported by fee's charged for its use. Capitol improvements are paid for in part from grants given to the district. The Lake is not attached to any tax base or supported by any city.

The Free "Fishin'in the Pines" kids derby was started in 1988 by former lake manager Hugh Marx as a way to promote the outdoors to kids. In 2007 the derby was renamed to honor Orville P. Ball former City Lakes manager and known as the "Father of Largemouth Bass fishing" in San Diego County.

Lake Cuyamaca owes its existence to the planning and foresight of Orville P. Ball. The entire lake plan was first put together by O.P and to this day is still maintained as much as it can. His family foundation has become a part of the Lake Cuyamaca Free kids trout fishing derby held each September

trout fishing in san diego So what do we need? The lake takes pride in the goody bags that are given to all the kids, the young ones get a stuffed animal and the older ones can get a reel or full tackle packs. We also have a free raffle and give away tackle boxes, rod reel combo's and much more. Feel free to call and ask what you can do to help, money of course always works.

All funds collected are used exclusively for youth activities at the lake
